Liposuction
More information
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that involves sucking out fat that is hard to lose through exercise and a diet. It's performed on body areas where deposits of fat tend to collect, such as the hips, buttocks, thighs and tummy. Abdominal liposuction is when this procedure is performed on the abdominal area. The aim is to shape the body, and the results are in most cases long-lasting.
The procedure involves:
- This procedure is either done under general anaesthetic, or local anaesthetic when performed on the lower body parts.
- The surgeon will break up the fat cells using the liposuction machine, there are several types like high-frequency vibrations, weak laser pulse or a high-pressure water jet.
- The liposuction tube is inserted through the incision and fat vacuumed
- Procedure might take up to couple of hours
Recovery
It might take around 6 weeks for recovery from liposuction. You will be advised to wear a special type of post-operative compression garment covering the areas that were treated. To encourage your skin to heal properly close the dead space and reduce any swelling and thus minimising the potential risks. Your surgeon might recommend wearing compression garments for at least 3 months after the procedure.
